Story[]

One year after the events of Borderlands 3, Tediore CEO Susan Coldwell sends her army to invade the planet Promethea and the orbiting headquarters of Atlas, looking for a vault key held by CEO Rhys Strongfork. Caught in the middle are recently fired research scientist Anu, her brother Octavio, and his boss Fran. Together with the assassin bot L0U13, they find themselves in possession of the vault treasure Tediore is looking for, a crystal that can heal people from a distance and even raise the dead. They attempt to start a company to market it, only to be tricked and captured by Coldwell.

It's revealed that the player characters' crystal is only half of a larger relic that Coldwell holds the other piece of, and she is planning to unite both parts into a superweapon that can torture people and entire planets into submission by killing and resurrecting them endlessly. She contacts the heads of all the Borderland's settings major organizations, demanding they merge with Tediore or be taken over by force.

Susan Coldwell's plan is thwarted, with the exact details varying depending on the player's choices throughout the story.

The game has five possible endings, depending on the bond established between the major characters: three in which one of Anu, Fran, or Octavio dies and the other two live, one in which all three characters live but go their separate ways, and one where they remain together and start a successful corporate consulting business, hiring many of the friends met through the course of the story as employees.

Meanwhile, the spirit living in the shards of the reunited crystal heads into space, followed by Fiona, one of the player characters from the original Tales from the Borderlands game.
